Why do we exist?

Every church needs to have a mission and purpose statement that answers the question – why do we exist? At Living Word Ministries our mission and purpose statements act as the filters that everything we do goes through.

Our Mission

Our mission is simple; we exist to reach the people of the greater New Haven area with the life changing message of Jesus Christ so that they can become fully devoted followers of Him.

Our Purpose

Our purpose is to develop followers of Christ who love God, connect together, serve others and reach their world. We believe that our mission and purpose help us to fulfill both the commandment and commission of Jesus to His followers. These are stated in two teachings of Jesus:

  • The Great Commandment:

    Jesus said to him, “ ‘You shall love the LORD your God with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your mind.’ “This is the first and great commandment. “And the second is like it: ‘You shall love your neighbor as yourself.’ “On these two commandments hang all the Law and the Prophets.” (Matthew 22:37-40)

  • The Great Commission:

    “Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, “teaching them to observe all things that I have commanded you; and lo, I am with you always, even to the end of the age.” Amen. (Matthew 28:19-20)

Our Goal

The goal we set out for each member of Living Word is developing Christ-likeness. Being a fully devoted follower of Christ means aspiring to be like him in our passion, values, conduct, lifestyle and mission.

Our Process

The process we employ at Living Word is summed up in four significant and strategic words that each relate to a part of the process. Those words are love, connect, serve and reach.

Each step in the process is a new level of commitment. Each is a step that causes us to give more of ourselves for the purpose of conforming to the image of Christ. It is in the giving of ourselves and laying aside our own interests that we discover the life God intended for us to live. It is the most exciting and significant journey we can experience. That is a fully devoted follower of Christ. One that embraces the call to be like Him and do His will on the earth making His mission your own.
